Zoo plans orangutan-friendly Halloween event

Published On: Oct 20 2013 11:54:28 AM CDT

Families will have the opportunity to join the Henry Vilas Zoo on Sunday, Oct. 27, to celebrate Halloween at the Zoo, according to a release.

Attendees are encouraged to dress up in costume and bring treat bags to the safe trick-or-treating event scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., organizers said. There will be two treat stop lines, an activity tent, live music and a chance to see some of the zoo animals.

At treat stop locations attendees will be able to fill their treat bags with orangutan-friendly candy that does not contain palm oil or is made from sustainably harvested palm oil, according to the release. Those types of candies help prevent the loss of orangutans’ forest home from farming for non-sustainable palm oil production in Indonesia and Malaysia.
