MADISON, Wis. -

A Stoughton woman’s driver-side window was shattered in a road rage incident on the Beltline on Tuesday, officials said.

The 26-year-old woman thought Aaron J. Cavanah, 40, of Madison was following her too closely so she tapped her brakes to get him to back off, according to the release. Cavanah responded by passing her and slamming on his brakes.

The woman tried to change lanes but Cavanah kept up with her and started swerving at her car, officials said. His truck eventually collided with her driver’s side window, shattering the glass.

The two drivers pulled off the Beltline along with a witness to the incident, according to the release.

Officials said Cavanah claimed he was trying to get her off the highway because he thought she was trying to kill him by hitting her brakes. He also said the woman was the one who swerved and caused the collision.

The woman and the witness claimed Cavanah caused the collision, officials said. The woman ended up with small cuts on her arms from the shattered glass.

Cavanah was arrested on charges of second-degree reckless endangering safety.
