Our response to the Race To Equity report on racial disparities in Madison, which we are calling One Madison thanks to the Urban League of Greater Madison graciously allowing us to steal the name of their annual report, requires a multitude of partners.

In fact we can't think of any group that should not be part of the dialogue on how we reverse disparities in school achievement, employment and income, and incarceration rates. But for a few years now one very important organization has been absent, and that's the NAACP. This week, that changes.

The local chapter of the NAACP went through some rough times a few years back and found itself in a position where election irregularities resulted in the national group yanking the local's charter. This week a group of local folks began recruiting members above and beyond the 100 required to be chartered again. Madison will once again be a recognized chapter of the NAACP will distinguished supporters like Gwen Jones, Betty Banks and Gaddi Ben Dan and Nino Amato. This is great news and the right time. It's great to have the NAACP back in Madison.
