WISC Editorial Agenda 2013 - Republican Support

It is a fact that political opposition to meaningful action on climate change, to any action on climate change for that matter, is rooted in the Republican party. Which makes the politically-motivated opposition, and the harm to our planet it is permitting, all the more reprehensible. So it is more than just refreshing, or gutsy, for four former Republican administration directors of the Environmental Protection Agency to publically state their support for action – it is environmental political whistle blowing.

William Ruckelshaus, Lee Thomas, William Reilly and Christine Todd Whitman have co-authored an op-ed column stating there is no longer credible scientific debate about the facts, that the costs of inaction are undeniable and that a market-based approach like a carbon tax would be the best path to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. They say President Obama’s plan is okay but just a start and political purposeful delay is intolerable.

We’d like to know how Senator Ron Johnson and Congressman Paul Ryan, among other Republicans, can still in good conscience continue to support delay.
