WAUNAKEE -

The last time the Waunakee Warriors walked off the field, they suffered a loss in the State Championship game at the hands of Mequon-Homestead, snapping their 48 game win streak.

Now, the Warriors are using the loss as motivation.

"You come back wanting more," says senior Alex Horras.

Waunakee opens their season Thursday night at Edgewood, in News 3's Prep Mania Game of the Week; and hope to start yet another historic run.

"Our goal is to get back to state and hopefully bring the gold ball back to Waunakee" says senior Gabe Lujan.

Their head coach, and WFCA Hall of Famer, Pat Rice, stops short of saying they'll be back at Camp Randall, but is still optimistic.

"By the end of the season, we may turn heads yet again."
