MADISON, Wis. -

The state Building Commission has delayed for at least a month any consideration of revoking a grant to help build a Native American cultural center.

Commission member Rep. Dean Kaufert had initially called for rescinding the $250,000 given to the Lac du Flambeau. He was angry that the state's six Chippewa tribes had increased their planned walleye spearfishing counts, resulting in a one-fish limit for other non-tribal members.

But Kaufert said he is hopeful the state and tribes can reach a deal. State and tribal leaders are scheduled to meet Monday to discuss the spearfishing limits.

Gov. Scott Walker is a member of the Building Commission. He said he supports money for the cultural center and he hopes the issue can be resolved.
