Vernon William Gehling

POYNETTE-Vernon William Gehling, age 78, of Poynette, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, after his battle with cancer, at William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital.

He was born on March 27, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Anthony and Viola (Vrendenburg) Gehling.

Vernon served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956 and the reserves from 1956 to 1960.

He married Shirley Stelter on August 27, 1957 in Crown Point, Indiana.

Vernon worked with his son Cory at Collectors Choice in Dane. He also worked at General Electric in Milwaukee and MP Metal Products.
Vernon was an avid sportsman, loved hunting and fishing but most of all spending time with his family and friends.

Vernon is survived by his wife Shirley; children Cory Gehling, Belinda (Richard) Delia and Kimberly (Robert) Donnely; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother Tom (Cathy) Gehling; sister Alice (Denny) Grable.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Esther, Edward, Jerome, Mary and LeRoy.

Memorial service will be held at HAMRE GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 157 S. Main St., Lodi at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2013. Inurnment will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
