MADISON, Wis. -

A University of Wisconsin-Madison police officer was injured during a disturbance at a residence hall Monday afternoon, according to a release.

UW police responded to Sellery Hall on Johnson Street around 4:20 p.m. for reports of an individual who was being disruptive, police said. The student was asked to leave several times, but he refused.

When officers arrived the student became combative, violent and showed no intention of being cooperative, officials said. After a struggle, UW police officers deployed a Taser and took him into custody.

The student continued his combative behavior, and as a result, a UWPD officer sustained a minor injury to his hand, according to the release. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

Officials did not release the identity of the student or the charges he may face.
