MADISON, Wis. -

University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank thinks the Board of Regents should consider raising tuition for out-of-state students.

“We are low relative to our main competitor schools in out-of-state tuition,” Blank said. “You know I’m an economist. It’s a market out there and we should be charging market prices for those students who come in from out of state.”

Blank said even though the UW System is under a tuition and budget freeze, she’s concerned about future funding and wants to keep tuition stable for in-state students.

Right now, out-of-state tuition is about $26,000 a year.
