MADISON, Wis. -

Madison police said two people had to go to the hospital early Friday morning after they crashed their motorcycle on the westbound Beltline.

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. Friday on the Beltline between Midvale Boulevard and Whitney Way.

According to police two people, a 45-year-old Madison man and a 28-year-old Madison woman, left a tavern where they had been drinking and rode off on a motorcycle. The motorcycle had no second seat, so the operator rolled up his jacket for his female passenger to sit on.

At some point, the jacket apparently became entangled in the rear wheel/sprocket, causing the bike to seize up. The operator lost control of the motorcycle, went off the road and crashed.

Neither of the people on the motorcycle were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. They were both taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
