Two people are dead, and one person is critically injured following a fire early Wednesday morning on the west side of Beloit.

BELOIT, Wis. -

Two people are dead, and one person is critically injured following a fire early Wednesday morning on the west side of Beloit.

Firefighters were sent to a home at 1950 Fairview Drive just before 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Beloit fire officials said Clint Christensen, 61, and Jamie Christensen, 33, died in the fire. Caren Christensen, 60, was released from University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison Wednesday night.

Travis Isley, a neighbor, said he pulled Caren Christensen out of the burning home using his ladder to get to her at a second-floor window.

Isley’s sister, Annali, was the first to hear the calls for help last night. She said she opened her window and realized there was a fire.

"So I go get a ladder and start running down the street, and I put it up and I'm trying to help the woman out of the window," Isley said. "We get her out of the window, but we couldn't save the other two."

Investigators said they believe Clint Christensen was trying to shield his daughter, Jamie Christensen, from the flames at the time of their death.

Clint Christensen and Jamie Christensen were located at the scene and pronounced dead at the home.

The cause and origin of the blaze remains under investigation. Beloit police are assisting with the investigation and will conduct the death investigation related to the fire.

The State Fire Marshall has been called to assist in the investigation.

As many as 30 firefighters were at the scene; fire crews remained at the scene putting out hotspots late Wednesday morning.
