Friday's hearing before the House Ways and Means Committee caps a week of damaging revelations for the Internal Revenue Service and, ultimately, for President Obama. By the numbers, here's a look at the IRS:

MY DESK: MADISON -

Good morning everyone.

We're going to talk about a bonus viewer-submitted email today because I took a call about this very issue yesterday afternoon from someone else. It comes as people are putting together their taxes. You can write off one scam attempt as an outlier, but a second one tends to mark some sort of trend.

The note below comes from Robert in Mineral Point and he sent it to me with the following statement: "I know you receive a lot of email like the one I received yesterday. Although it is a serious threat, with zipped file and all, I had to chuckle when reading it."

My concern is that there may be someone out there inclined to get an email from "Millicent Washburn," who allegedly is the head of Police station #162, and an email address channeling her/his inner-Dante ("Inferno) at ridelinks.com

If you are really facing a fine from the IRS, trust me, they have far better ways of getting a hold of you than this.

Please take Robert's advice: don't click on attachments from people you don't know.

Just hit delete.

Adam

Good afternoon!

You have the fine for income tax.

The message is in the attached file.

You have to verify it before June 6th 2014. Your identification number: DJH/11194.

Else you'll get additional surcharge.

Good bye, head of Police station #162.
