Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center, Verona boys hockey finally won their first state championship. They did so in grand fashion, defeating Onalaska 6-1.

Verona also bucked any negative feelings from their 2013 trip to state. Last year, the Wildcats stunned number one Green Bay-Notre Dame in the state semifinals. Then they lost to Eau Claire-Memorial in the state final.

Friday, Verona topped number one Notre Dame again, but this time they made sure their weekend didn't end in disappointment.

From the moment the puck dropped in Saturday's final, Verona dominated Onalaska. They scored once in the first period, before tacking on three more in the second. They cruised to a 6-1 win en route to their first ever state championship.

For their efforts, they're our Prep Mania Team of the Month.
