SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. -

A Sun Prairie native was among seven killed in a plane crash in Afghanistan on Monday, according to the man's uncle.

Jeremy Lipka, 37, was the captain of the National Airlines plane that crashed at Bagram Air Force Base, according to his uncle, Terry Lipka, of Sun Prairie.

The crash happened shortly after takeoff, the U.S.-based company said. The Boeing 747-400 was en route to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Terry Lipka said Jeremy went school in Sun Prairie later moved to Minnesota. As an adult he was living in Michigan.

He said most of Jeremy's flights were overseas and that Lipka's family is completely shocked.

Funeral arrangements are pending as investigation is underway. Lipka said someone from the company will be meeting with his family in Minnesota later this week. Jeremy had one child, but was not married.

"This was a purely cargo flight and no passengers were aboard," a company statement said. "Cargo consisted of vehicles and routine general cargo."

National specializes in moving freight for the military and businesses, as well as charter passenger service in the Middle East.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.
