MADISON, Wis. -

A storm that swept through southern Wisconsin Sunday afternoon knocked down trees and damaged utility poles.

The National Weather Service reported a tree went through a roof of a home on Afton Road, between Afton and Beloit. The NWS issued that report at around 10:15 p.m. The NWS also said many trees were down throughout the city of Beloit.

Law enforcement in Lafayette County reported trees down near State Highway 11 and County Road D and in Adams and Jordan townships in Green County at about 2:30 p.m. There were about 10 reports of trees down in Madison.

The News3 Weather Center reported thunderstorms fired up in a warm and humid air mass. The storms produced winds gusts to 60 mph.

With a warm front to the north and a cold front to the west, showers and thunderstorms will remain possible Sunday night. Showers and thunderstorms could develop Sunday evening, but there’s a better chance for storms after midnight tonight through early Monday morning.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are also possible Monday and Tuesday as the system responsible for these storms slowly shifts through the Midwest.
