Wisconsin residents looking for some Friday the 13th Mega Millions luck as they try for the fifth-largest lottery jackpot in American history can take heart knowing seven $1 million winners have been sold in the state since 2008. The Mega Millions jackpot for tonight's drawing is $400 million.
An analysis of the Wisconsin Lottery database shows 1,453 winning Mega Millions tickets have been sold in the state over the last five years.
Two million-dollar prizes, matching the first five numbers drawn, have been won in Green Bay. One at the Festival Foods on Jan. 4, 2012 and one at the I-43 Shell Business Center on May 1, 2011.
Other million-dollar winners have been sold at the Fast Break Mobil in Wausau on May 29, 2012, at the Kenosha BP Express on Feb. 7, 2011, at Pick N Save #6845 in Milwaukee on Dec. 27, 2012, at the R-Store in Mosinee on March 26, 2012 and at Weiler Enterprises in Marshfield on Feb. 23, 2012.
Twenty different times since 2013, Wisconsin residents have won $250,000 in the Mega Millions game. The largest winning ticket in Dane County over the last five years was a $40,000 winner sold on Jan. 5, 2012 at the PDQ in Stoughton.
The chances of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 18.5 million. To put that in context, the Harvard Department of Public Health determined there is a 1 in 6.1 million chance that you die from a bee sting.
