Madison Memorial track stars Jester Weah and Daurice Fountain are hoping to wrap up their seasons with big performances at the State Meet in La Crosse next week.
Both Weah and Fountain have the top times in the state in their respective events- Weah in the 100 meter dash and Fountain in the long jump. Fountain is also in the top five in the state in the 110 meter hurdles.
Fountain says, "I try not to look at it so I can stay focused on the goal and my goal is to win the state in the 110 meter hurdles and hopefully take it for the long jump."
Weah, who also starred on the Spartans football and basketball teams, hopes to finish his senior season in high school in style. "I just try to think fast. It's just like a tune up to work on my speed and get better for football," says Weah who will play football for Paul Chryst at Pittsburgh next fall.
Memorial track coach Casey Hopp says, "these two kids really epitomize what multi-sport athletes really are and they bring the talents they have from football and basketball to track."
The State Track meet begins Thursday, May 30 in La Crosse.
