Linebackers Alex Figueroa and Jawand Blue are no longer part of the University of Miami football program after they were arrested and charged with sexual battery of a 17-year-old girl.

The two players were booked into jail on Tuesday. Both were suspended by the university and barred from the campus, athletic director Blake James said.

Figueroa and Blue are accused of buying the girl drinks, bringing her to Figueroa's dorm room on July 5 and performing repeated sexual acts without her consent, according to the police report. The victim reported the incident to university police, who contacted the Coral Gables Police Department.

The two were charged with sexual battery on a physically helpless victim and held on $10,000 bond, according to records. Figueroa also was charged with possession of a stolen or forged driver's license.

"Earlier today, I permanently dismissed Jawand Blue and Alexander Figueroa from the UM football team," James said. "The university has also suspended the students from school and barred them from all campus facilities while the University conducts an internal investigation and continues to cooperate with local law enforcement.

"Any allegation of a sexual assault is extremetly serious, and the university will not tolerate conduct that threatens the sanctity and safety of our students and our campus. We hold all of our students -- especially the student athletes -- to the highest standards of a moral conduct. The University is committed to maintaining a safe campus environment for all."

Miami president Donna E. Shalala said the university is working with police and also conducting its own investigation.

"There is no confusion about our responsibility as a university: We will fully and compassionately support the victim of sexual assault. I have spoken to her myself and reassured her of our full support," Shalala said.

Figueroa played in nine games for the Hurricanes last season and had 17 tackles, including one sack. He was in line to win the starting job at strong-side linebacker this fall before the incident.

Blue had one tackle in two games last year and was expected to back up Denzel Perryman at middle linebacker in 2014.
