Tigers 14, Dodgers 5: Rajai Davis was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Justin Verlander recovered from a rough first inning as host Detroit scored 14 unanswered runs to win the series opener.Miguel Cabrera and Torii Hunter both recorded three hits and two RBIs and Nick Castellanos had three hits and scored three times in the Tigers' best offensive showing of the year. J.D. Martinez also had three hits - including a triple - and scored twice and Alex Avila knocked in a pair of runs for Detroit, which was 12-for-17 with runners in scoring position.Verlander (8-7) gave up five runs in the first inning alone before he settled in, retiring 13 straight at one point before working around a walk and a single in the sixth. The right-hander allowed five hits and struck out four in six frames while improving to 23-2 in interleague games.After Adrian Gonzalez delivered a two-run double and Juan Uribe a two-run homer in Los Angeles' big first-inning rally, Avila and Davis had RBI singles to spark Detroit's five-run second. Cabrera capped the rally with a run-scoring single as Los Angeles starter Hyun-Jin Ryu (9-5) gave up eight hits in the frame, tying a Dodgers record.Ryu was chased by an RBI single by Davis in the third before Austin Jackson greeted reliever Jamey Wright with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-5. The first six Tigers reached against Wright in a four-run fourth and Cabrera's first triple of the season - one of 20 hits for Detroit - drove in a run during a two-run seventh.GAME NOTEBOOK: Ryu was charged with a season-high seven earned runs and 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings. ... Tigers DH Victor Martinez (back) missed his third straight game. ... The Dodgers placed RHP Josh Beckett (hip) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled RHP Pedro Baez from Triple-A Albuquerque.
