It's been quite the year for Lodi athletics. Both boys and girls basketball teams made it to state. The baseball team saved the best for last, winning the Division Two state baseball title in June. It's the school first baseball title.
"We just knew right away that was our year. Words can't describe it [winning state.] its the best feeling in the world, nothing can compare, " said senior Fred Manke.
"With this group of guys, its really a special feeling. You work so hard. It's been such a tight knit group, I am just so happy for them right now," said head coach Kip Nordstrom.
"At the beginning of January we had guys over to my house to hit and we said we weren't going to have have any senior slumps and we are going to turn the freshmen into men. We just came out on the biggest stage and we hit the ball and we are the best team in the state in Division Two," said senior pitcher Donnie Manke.
The Blue Devils took home second in the state basketball tournament in the winter, so taking home gold in the spring was very satisfying.
"It would have been awesome to get gold in basketball and baseball, but to get second in basketball then right away to get first in baseball, it's unreal," said senior Brady Moses.
Lodi's only other state baseball appearance was back in 1982, so this gold means a lot to the community.
"It brings a small community together, you know, even if it's just for a few days. It's just something that is really hard to put into words. It means so much to the community and it means so much to the kids to be able to be a part of it and to see the little kids look up to these guys-- there are just so many things that make it a really special memory," said Nordstrom.
