The last time the Mount Horeb boys basketball team went to state was 1941 and Eunice Bakken and Eileen Harrington remember it well.
They were students at Mount Horeb High School when the Vikings made their last appearance at state 73 years ago.
Mount Horeb won its first game at the UW Fieldhouse that year, 27-19 over Ellsworth, then lost in the quarterfinals to Monroe, 30 to 18.
Harrington was a cheerleader for Mount Horeb in 1941 and says going to the Fieldhouse "was a big thing."
This year, Mount Horeb (24-0) is ranked number one in the state in Division Two and will play Sauk Prairie in the sectional semifinal Thursday night at 7 in Middleton.
