Strong offense and good pitching help a baseball team get some easy victories. They were key elements in the Madison Mallards win Monday night against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.
The Madison Mallards hit three home runs and batted around in the second inning to win convincingly Monday night against the Rafters 13-3.
Mallards starter Luke Staub was also impressive. The pitcher from George Washington struck out 10 and allowed only two hits in seven innings of work.
The Mallards are now 14-10 on the year, and are only 21/2 games behind the Lakeshore Chinooks for first place in the Northwoods League South Division Standings.
Mallards first baseman Jeff Zahn led the offense by going 4-for-5, including a home run. He finished a triple away from the cycle, and got two of his hits in the second inning.
The Mallards will play their third game of a six-game home stand tomorrow against the Battle Creek Bombers.
Tuesday's game is the Sustain Dane Mallards Go Green Night. There will also be a Zimbrick Honda LEGO Rubber Ducky Giveaway.
