For the third year in a row, the University of Wisconsin athletic department is teaming up with a department on campus to present the football team’s annual spring game.

This year, the Spring Game will benefit the UW School of Pharmacy, with all profits from the ticket sales going to the School of Pharmacy.

“Three years ago, the athletic department decided we would use proceeds from the spring game and partner with a department on campus to provide them assistance financially,” UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez said. “It’s been a very positive experience working with the other departments, plus it’s a two-way street.  It also helps us promote the spring game.

“This year we're pleased to announce that we’ll partner with the School of Pharmacy. We’re very excited about that and excited to work with them.  Jeanette (Roberts, the Dean of the School of Pharmacy) has assured me that they will promote and outdo the previous two departments.”

This year’s spring game, the official Badgers debut of new head coach Gary Andersen, will be held on April 20 at 2 p.m. at Camp Randall Stadium. Tickets to the game are $5 and can be ordered at, by calling the UW Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-GO-BADGERS or by stopping by the ticket office at Camp Randall Stadium.

Last year, the athletic department teamed with the UW Center for Nonprofits in the UW School of Human Ecology to help fund student internships for UW students within nonprofit organizations. Proceeds from the 2011 game went to the UW School of Nursing and helped fund Signe Skott Cooper Hall, which is currently under construction.  The UW School of Pharmacy will use the proceeds from this year’s game to fund scholarships for continuing UW students.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be the 2013 partner with UW Athletics for the spring football game,” Jeanette Roberts, the Dean of the School of Pharmacy said. “We will be devoting the proceeds of the spring game to our Great People Scholarship Program. This is all need-based scholarships, a program that was originated two or three years ago now, and we’re absolutely committed to reducing the student debt load of our graduates and promoting the fact that pharmacy education can and should be accessible for any qualified student regardless of socioeconomic status.”

UW has made three consecutive appearances in the Rose Bowl and is coming off an unprecedented third-straight Big Ten title. A number of talented players from last year’s team return, including running backs James White and Melvin Gordon, wide receiver Jared Abbrederis, tight end Jacob Pedersen, linebacker Chris Borland and defensive linemen David Gilbert and Beau Allen.

Andersen comes to Madison after leading Utah State to a school-record 11 wins in 2012. He was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year award as the Aggies went undefeated in the WAC and captured their first outright league title since 1936. USU finished the season ranked 16th in the Associated Press Poll, just the third time in school history the Aggies have been ranked in the final poll of the season.

The Badgers will begin spring practice on Saturday, March 9.
