Social Development Commission lays off 150 workers

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -

The Social Development Commission in Milwaukee announced it will be laying off 154 workers starting July 7.

According to a release from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, the Milwaukee offices at 4041 North Richards St. notified the employees of their planned termination in May. 

The DWD was notified of the layoffs June 24, according to the release.

The 154 workers are all members of the SDC's Head Start Program. The program is focused on providing early-childhood education to children from low-income families in the Milwaukee area, according to the SDC website.

According to the release, the DWD is will work with the Milwaukee HIRE center for those employees looking for help.
