I guess I'm not going to finish mowing the lawn today.

MADISON, WIs.. -

Snow started sticking to the ground in southern Wisconsin on Monday morning. The light rain from early in the day quickly changed to light snow as temperatures plummeted, according to News 3 meteorologist Karin Swanson.

A cold front moved through the area early Monday morning. Temperatures fell quickly from the 40s to the freezing mark during the morning hours, and are expected to continue to fall into the middle 20s by late afternoon. Winds will be breezy with wind chills in the teens at times.

Light snowfall accumulations are possible before snow gradually tapers off Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service is warning that some wet roads and sidewalks in southern Wisconsin could become icy as temperatures continue to fall.

The coldest air of the season arrives Monday night with low temperatures dipping to the middle teens.

Other parts of the Great Lakes region are also seeing the snow. Three to eight inches of lake effect snow is predicted for parts of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Lower Michigan will see a rain and snow mixture transition to all light snow from north to south as temperatures fall Monday afternoon.
