University of Wisconsin students had a chance to take some shots on the Kohl Center floor to help fight cancer in the "Shooting Down Cancer" event Thursday.

The event raised a record $66,130.

For the second year, Badgers head men's basketball coach Bo Ryan and his wife, Kelly, offered to donate money to Coaches Versus Cancer and the American Cancer Society based on the number of students participating and how many shots they made.

For every student who came into the Kohl Center, the donation was one dollar. If a student made a free throw, the donation was $10 and $1000 for every half court shot made.

Last year, the Ryan's presented a check for $42,000 toward cancer research and today's total took the event to another level.

Bo Ryan said, "We were shocked with last years turn out and they made us pay which was good because this is what it is for we feel so strongly about finding a cure for cancer. So we think this is one way to mix the students with our players let them have some fun and donate to a good charity. I'm excited about it.
