Cameron Bates, 23, of Fort Atkinson

ALBION, Wis. -

Officials said a Fort Atkinson man was arrested after he pulled a gun on his passenger, pistol whipped her, then left her on the side of the interstate Tuesday.

The Dane County Sheriff's Department said Cameron Bates, 23, was driving westbound on Interstate 90 near mile marker 162 when he became angry with the passenger, an 18-year-old woman.

Bates pulled over, the took a 9 mm handgun out from under the driver's seat and struck the woman in the head with the barrel multiple times, according to the report.

He held the gun to the passenger's head, threatened her and pushed her out of the vehicle, the sheriff's department said.

Bates sped away from the woman left on the interstate and returned to his home in Fort Atkinson, where he began destroying the victim's belongings.

Dane County detectives searched Bates' vehicle and recovered the handgun, the sheriff said.

Bates was charged with disorderly conduct while armed, recklessly endangering safety and battery, all with domestic violence enhancers. Fort Atkinson police also charged Bates with criminal damage to property, the report said.

Bates was taken to Dane County Jail.
