MADISON, Wis. -

Dane County sheriff's officials are warning residents of a phone scam where the caller demands money, claiming the resident he called for did not report for jury duty.

Dane County dispatch alerted the sheriff’s office Monday that several Madison residents received phone calls from a man claiming to be a lieutenant with the sheriff’s office, according to a release.

The man says his name is William Hall, and tells the caller that they did not report for jury duty, officials said. The man tells the resident that to avoid a warrant for their arrest they have to go to the nearest Walgreens and wire a payment to him within the hour.

Dane County sheriff's officials said as of Wednesday they are still getting reports from residents who have received similar phone calls.

Officials ask residents who receive calls like this to call 911 to report the information.
