RACINE, Wis. -

Charges have been reduced for an emergency medical technician accused of sexually assaulting a patient in Racine County.

Second-degree sexual assault charges against Somers EMT Jodin Froeber have been revised to third-degree sexual assault. Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Arn said the reduced charge is "based on further investigation into the effects of the drugs that were administered to the victim."

If Froeber is convicted, the reduced charge knocks 20 years off his possible maximum sentence. The 37-year-old Froeber is accused of assaulting the then-20-year-old woman in the back of an ambulance in July 2011.

The Racine Journal Times said Froeber was placed on paid administrative leave after he was charged in August.
