Rep. Paul Ryan

Rep. Paul Ryan said implementation of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul law gives Republicans an opportunity to benefit politically by offering voters a true alternative.

Ryan spoke Saturday at the Wisconsin Republican Party convention near Wausau.

The 2012 vice presidential nominee says the health care law will result in higher health insurance costs and other problems for people and Republicans must capitalize on that.

He said Obama ran on the promise of big government in theory, but the health care law will show big government in practice and it will make people angry.

Ryan urged Republicans to take stock of the party and figure out where to make improvements. He said "this is not a time to drown your sorrows."
