Robert Miller Janney

Reverend Robert Miller Janney was born March 19, 1928 in Richland Center and died August 21, 2012 in Aurora, Colorado at the age of 84 after a long battle with cancer.

Robert was the son of Irvin and Helen (Radel) Janney of Fancy Creek. He is survived by his son David Janney (New Mexico) and daughter Diane Long (Colorado), four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his first wife Trudy Martin (Colorado) and cousins Carolyn Freeman and Lillian Cooper of Richland Center. His father, mother, sister Loise (Janney) Partridge, brother-in-law, Bill Partridge and his second wife, Sara Belle Kruger, preceded him in death.

He graduated Richland Center High School in 1946. He attended Indiana Central College from 1946-48, Platteville University from 1948-50, United Seminary from 1950-54 and the American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry from 1968-71.

Robert began his family in Lake Wawasee, Syracuse, Indiana. Along with his wife Trudy, they managed the Oakwood Park Camp and Conference Center until 1958. During this time both children were born. St. John's United Church of Christ, Cincinnati, Ohio, was their next destination for the following 10 years. In 1968 the family moved to Minneola, New York. While preaching in a small neighborhood church he return to school to obtain a degree in marriage counseling. Upon finishing school the family moved to Los Lunas, New Mexico where he enjoyed his new career in counseling. He eventually returned to preaching in Cincinnati and remarried. Ashville, North Carolina was their next home. He owned and operated 3 boarding homes for wayward men, which served a large community purpose. He retired in Mobile, Alabama, and enjoyed going to the symphony, traveling, sightseeing, and cooking.

Robert lived his life helping others through Jesus Christ. He had vision developing many programs and services as a pastor. He served as a community volunteer. During his retirement he created men's fellowship groups, community events and fishing trips "with the boys". He loved the rolling hills of his homeland and often talked about life growing up on his parents farm. His favorite food to eat, curd cheese!

Memorial services for Reverend Robert Miller Janney will be held July 24, 2013 in Richland Center at Peace United Methodist Church and will begin at 10:00 am with visitation before ceremony. All friends and family members are invited to share this time of remembrance. Inurnment will follow at the Richland Center Cemetery.

The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their local arrangements.
