MIDDLETON, Wis. -

A Middleton-Cross Plains teacher reinstated after facing accusations of receiving and sharing explicit emails while on the job has sent a letter to the parents of his students.

Arbitrators ruled the school district wrongly fired Andrew Harris in 2010 and he should be reinstated. He returned to the classroom this month.

In the letter to parents, Harris apologized for his actions.

“Four years ago I made a mistake that showed a lack of judgment and forethought. I want you to know how sorry I am that I allowed this occur.”

He pointed out that no students were involved in the misconduct and he said his teaching wasn’t affected.

“I am not defending my actions, but I want to assure you that my classroom will be a safe learning environment for your student. I have been given a second chance to do what I love- making science fun for students and showing them that doing science can be exciting and educational all at the same time.”

Harris also provided parents with contact information and invited parents to sit in on a class.

On Tuesday, Gov. Scott Walker sent a letter to Wisconsin state Superintendent Tony Evers to start proceedings to revoke Harris’ license, saying that Harris’ behavior meets the definition of immoral conduct cited in state statutes.

Department of Public Instruction officials said an investigation of Harris started in May 2010.

Last week a group of parents picketed outside Kromrey Middle School against the decision to allow Harris back into the school.
