MADISON, Wis. -

The annual "Recycle The Warmth" blanket drive is going on from through Sunday.

WISC-TV, Shopko, dozens of area churches, and Midwest Family Radio Stations are working with St. Vincent de Paul to collect gently used and new bedding.

The bedding will then be distributed to Dane County families throughout the year. Volunteer Ernie Stetenfeld said that donations are needed every year.

"This time of year is a good reminder to people that this is an ongoing need for local people who have almost nothing," Stetenfeld said. "They scrape together a security deposit and a first month’s rent. Our members go visit them at home and find there's no furniture, no bedding and often a child has no blanket other than maybe the coat they wore to school that morning."

Facilities collecting the blankets include four local Shopko stores and Dane County churches.
