Poll tests candidacy of Democrat Burke

Published On: Jun 25 2013 11:11:07 AM CDT

MADISON, Wis. -

A poll testing the potential candidacy of Democrat Mary Burke against Republican Gov. Scott Walker has drawn a complaint with Wisconsin election regulators.

Burke is a member of the Madison Metropolitan School District board and a former secretary of the state Department of Commerce under Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle. She has not publicly said whether she is interested in running for governor and did not immediately return telephone messages seeking comment Tuesday.

The complaint filed by the executive director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin says a telephone poll on June 13 inquired about Burke, Walker and other prominent politicians.

The complaint states the person conducting the poll refused to disclose who was paying for it.

Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate says the party is conducting a number of research surveys and there was nothing improper about the call.
