Police: Unattended purse leads to stolen car

MADISON, Wis. -

A woman’s car was stolen after she discovered the keys missing from her purse while she visited a nightclub, according to a release from the Madison Police Department.

The 53-year-old Madison woman said she left her purse unattended for a short time Sunday night while she was at a nightclub on Applegate Court.

The woman’s car was spotted and stopped by a Dane County Sheriff’s deputy near the intersection of Stoughton Road and Pflaum Road.

Leo E. Cowan, 45, of Madison, was arrested on suspicion of theft and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
