A 22-year-old Madison college student was given Ecstasy and sexually assaulted, according to Madison police.
Police said the victim was celebrating her birthday and was intoxicated on State Street in the early morning hours of Sept. 5. A man approached her, took her to his downtown business office and later to his home on the west side, according to police.
The man sexually assaulted the woman at both locations, according to investigators.
Jonathan G. Evenson, 37, of Madison was charged with six counts of second-degree sexual assault and delivery of non-narcotics. He appeared in court Friday and cash bond was set at $70,000.
Neighbor Seth Jacobus said outside of a few noise complaints, no one in the neighborhood had a problem with Evenson.
"If this is true, then it's certainly something we didn't see coming," Jacobus said. "We thought, maybe Jon is finally starting to grow up a bit and really show more of his potential."
A friend of Evenson, who said she wanted to remain anonymous, told News 3 she wasn't shocked at the accusations Evenson now faces.
"I got a terribly sick feeling, but it didn't come as a surprise that something like this would happen," the woman said.
Evenson was an attorney with Stafford Rosenbaum LLP. The firm said in a statement they let Evenson go on Sept. 11.
According to the criminal complaint, Evanson admitted to having sex with the victim, but said it was consensual. He also said the victim took Ecstasy voluntarily.
The victim told police she remembered everything up to 1 a.m. on Sept. 5 and the rest of her memories of the night come in brief memories and partial information.
