MADISON, Wis. -

Madison police are looking for Graham L. Stowe, who escaped from Mendota Mental Health Tuesday afternoon, according to a release.

Officials believe Stowe was in the Waunakee area Tuesday night and Madison Police Department K-9 units were tracking him.

The Waunakee Community School District announced Wednesday morning they would hold summer school elementary morning recess indoors at Arboretum, Heritage and Prairie elementary schools, according to a release.

The WCSD officials said regular student safety protocols would be followed if necessary and older students involved in summer school do not have a morning recess time outside.

Stowe, 30, is described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a goatee, according to the release. Stowe was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts.

Officials say Stowe climbed a fence and ran into the woods.

Stowe has a lengthy violent criminal history and may be armed with a golf club, according to the release.

Stowe kidnapped his girlfriend, and tied up her brother and father, according to Cpt. Jeff Sanborn of the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

Sanborn said Stowe was admitted to Mendota because during the incident Stowe planned to kill himself in front of the kidnapped family.

Stowe was released but was reinstated to Mendota after he attempted to contact the old girlfriend and violated his parole, said Sanborn.

Officials ask anyone who sees a person matching Stowe’s description to not attempt to contact Stowe and to call 911 immediately.
