At a news conference Friday morning, Town of Beloit Police Chief Steve Kopp said Kayden Powell was found alive 29 hours after he was reported missing by his mother. Powell was found outside a gas station in West Branch, Iowa, swaddled in clothes inside a tote bag.

Rock County Sheriff Robert Spoden said the Rock County District Attorney and the U.S. Attorney will discuss possible charges against Kristen Smith, Kayden's mother's half-sister, who was arrested in West Branch, Iowa, Thursday on a warrant out of Texas. Authorities had declined to comment Thursday whether Smith was a suspect in Kayden's abduction, but Kopp had previously said in an email Smith was a person of interest.

Kopp said the baby was found at 10:15 a.m. and appears to be doing very well. The baby was found during a general canvass of the area. The West Branch police chief heard the baby crying.

FBI Special Agent G.B. Jones said Kayden is an "amazingly resilient" baby.

"The safe recovery of this child, it's miraculous," Jones said.

The baby is undergoing a medical evaluation and family members have been notified.

There have been no charges issued in the case.
