Police investigate garbage can explosion

MADISON, Wis. -

Madison police and fire officials are investigating an explosion in a city parks department garbage can.

A resident in the 200 block of Shady Leaf Road reported the sound of an explosion at 10:49 p.m. The caller said the sound shook the house.

Police found an approximately 44-gallon steel garbage can in Door Creek Park that had contained garbage that was shredded by an explosive device placed inside.

The caller gave police the license information of a vehicle that left a nearby parking lot moments after the explosion.

A special police investigator and fire investigator were assigned to the case.
