Jarid Hinz, 22, of Monona

MONONA, Wis. -

Police said officers busted a Monona man robbing the restaurant he works for after hours.

Monona police Det. Lt. Sara Deuman said officers have been investigating a string of recent burglaries at a The Pizza Oven on Monona Drive. In each incident an unused door at the business was left unlocked before a burglary occurred. An employee was suspected of leaving the door unlocked.

Police said the business owners found the door unlocked Friday and called Monona police.

Monona detectives and an officer hid inside the business after closing, according to the report. A short time after The Pizza Oven closed a suspicious person was seen walking up to the business.

Police said the suspicious person entered the business through the unlocked door and went to the area inside where money was kept. One of the detectives observed the man take cash from a bag. Just before the man was able to pocket the cash, officers exited their location of cover, identified themselves and took the man into custody.

The man was a Pizza Oven employee and had worked the evening shift the prior night, police said.

Jarid Hinz, 22, was booked into the Dane County Jail on burglary and theft charges, the report said.

Deuman said there were three prior burglaries at the restaurant and the cumulative loss is estimated at $1,200.

Monona police asked anyone with information on this or other similar incidents to call the department at 608-222-0463, Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014, or text the word "MONONA" followed by the tip to TIP411 (847411).
