WAUNAKEE, Wis. -

Police said two men were arrested after a chase with police followed by a brief hideout in the town of Westport Monday night.

The Waunakee Police Department said at about 6:05 p.m., a Waunakee officer spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Madison earlier in the day. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled.

Officers pursued the vehicle until it lost control and went into the ditch on North Madison Street, police said. Two men fled the vehicle on foot. A 16-year-old girl stayed in the vehicle and was not charged.

Officers from Waunakee, Dane County Sheriff's Office and DeForest set up a perimeter and brought in a thermal imager to search for the two men, according to the report.

At about 7 p.m., a nearby resident reported two men in her yard. Officers found both men trying to hide and took the two into custody.

Police said the men were taken to a Madison hospital and treated for frostbite. The two men were still hospitalized as of Tuesday at 10 a.m., according to police.

Police said neither man has been positively identified.

Pending charges include operating a vehicle without the owner's consent, knowingly fleeing an officer, obstructing and multiple traffic violations.
