A deputy reported being passed by a speeding 1995 Lexus heading east on State Highway 136 east of Cornfield Road at about 10:30 p.m. The deputy said after the car completed the pass, it lost control on a curve and crashed into a house at E10540 Highway 136. The deputy was not attempting a traffic stop at the time, according to officials.
The car caught fire and the driver, Nicholas S. Allen, 29, of Baraboo, was able to crawl to safety, according to deputies. Those in the house were safely evacuated as the car fire spread to the house.
The house suffered severe damage, according to the release.
Allen was taken to St. Clare Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No one in the home was injured.
Allen was cited on suspicion of unreasonable and imprudent speed, operating with a suspended driver’s license, non-registration of an automobile and operating a vehicle without insurance.
