Hero cat dog attack

Cats aren't typically known for being very loyal, but a California feline is making headlines for saving a toddler from a dog attack.

A surveillance camera captured amazing footage of the attack, which occurred in Bakersfield.

In the video posted to YouTube, the boy is seen riding his bike in the driveway when a neighbor's dog comes barreling around a vehicle and pulls the boy to the ground.

The family cat, named Tara, zips out and scares the much-larger dog away, even chasing it around the vehicle and into the street.

The boy's mother told Bakersfield TV station KERO that her son needed some stitches, but is doing fine.

The dog is under observation.
