GREEN BAY -

Defense is a need again for the Green Bay Packers in the NFL draft.

The "draft-and-develop" Packers like to pick the best available player. Coach Mike McCarthy has also talked about the importance of adding defensive impact players in the offseason.

Green Bay did add free agent Julius Peppers to help Clay Matthews with the pass rush. The Packers pick 21st in the first round. They could target a playmaking safety like Alabama's Ha Ha Clinton-Dix or Louisville's Calvin Pryor to boost the secondary.

Or general manager Ted Thompson could turn to another Alabama product, C.J. Mosley, or Ohio State's Ryan Shazier to add talent at inside linebacker.

Tight end could also be a priority for Green Bay with the health of free agent Jermichael Finley still in question.
