As United Way of Dane County celebrates the official kick-off to the 2013 Campaign to raise more than 18 Million dollars to support our community we direct your attention to two recent United Way initiatives. The first is the HIRE (H-I-R-E) Education Employment Initiative which looks to match employer needs with skilled employees by helping people who do not have a high school diploma get one along with job skills. The second is the I’m Here program offering positive reinforcement to kids for attending school.

Here’s the point: education and job readiness, and attendance as a school achievement benchmark are two of this community biggest challenges. This United Way, the United Way of Dane County, because of its staff and community leaders and its Agenda for Change, is flexible enough to step up and meet these challenges right now when we need it.

As over 700 people participate in Days of Caring this week, and everyone in Dane County is asked to contribute to a successful campaign we remind you that it is worth it and it works. United Way is proof that taking action changes lives.
