FINISH GED NOW!

03/24/13

This is the first of what will likely be a series of editorials between now and the end of the year urging folks who have started, but have yet to complete, their General Equivalency Degree, or GED, to get it done.

The federal government has approved a series of changes to the important certificate of high school completion program, including new standards and a new, computer testing model. The changes are in response to changes in education and the workplace and will be beneficial in the long run. But they also mean that those who have not completed all five tests for their GED by the end of the year will have to start over. So even if you’ve completed four of the five, if you don’t complete the fifth by December 31st you have to take all five again.

It’s estimated there are 40-thousand people with uncompleted GEDs in Wisconsin, and perhaps 22-hundred in Dane County. We need to reach these students and encourage them to contact a place like Omega School to complete their tests. They’ve all worked so hard. It’d be a shame to lose the momentum toward future academic and employment success they’ve already built up.
