A 21ST CENTURY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
It’s hard to imagine a Chamber of Commerce better attuned to the community it represents than the Greater Madison Camber of Commerce. That is of course a reflection of the business leaders who direct the Chamber’s activities. But it is also a reflection of the person at the top, and for the last nine years that person has been Jennifer Alexander. Alexander is retired as of this editorial, and the Chamber she leaves has become an invaluable civic player under her leadership.
Alexander led the Chamber and its board from being reactionary, to having a seat at the table for every important discussion in the city, and she’s done it without rancor or turmoil. Of course she’s also overseen the creation of a true regional economic development structure and strategy that is this region’s future. But it’s the confidence of the Chamber’s positions in city politics and business issues that is such a big part of Alexander’s legacy. The entire area owes her a debt of gratitude.
