The Washington Post this week published an editorial that included such a strikingly accurate description of the whole so-called sequestration debate, we felt compelled to steal it. The Post put it this way: Washington is having a stupid fight over a stupid budget issue. Rarely have so few words said so much.
Our view – sure to anger both sides of the power-struggle – is both sides are to blame. In the simplest terms, Republicans are unwilling to consider new revenues; Democrats are unwilling to take seriously entitlement reform. We need both. What both parties are more than willing to do is jeopardize a recovering economy and a very fragile working class.
They will resolve this. They always do. But people are being hurt. And – to put the blame where we believe it belongs – President Obama and House Republicans refuse to do anything about it. And that’s stupid.
