William C. "Billy" Buckley

LODI-William Buckley Sr., age 87, went to his heavenly home on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Lodi Good Samaritan Society, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born September 19, 1926, in Portage, WI, to William B. Buckley and Irene (Thrasher) Buckley. Bill graduated from Lodi High School in the class of 1944. He was married on August 4, 1948 to Lois M. Quam at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Bill was employed at Oscar Mayer Co. for 33 years and operated Buckley’s Green Acres Christmas Tree Farm from 1967 to 2003 with the help of family and a partnership with his sons. He received the Columbia County Woodland Owners Award in 1970 and 1986. Bill was an enthusiastic member and hunters safety instructor with the Columbia County Sportsman League, a charter member and past president of the Lake Wisconsin Lions Club, proudly wearing his 15 year perfect attendance pin and recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, a Town of Lodi Parks Commission member as well as a long-time member of the Dekorra Lutheran Church, holding multiple offices including president.

When not volunteering his time for community and church, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and family time with the grandchildren playing games.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Lois of 65 years; two sons, Bill (Diane) Buckley Jr. of Poynette and Wayne Buckley of Madison; three daughters, Linda (Don) Riggs of Portage, Kathryn (Rich) Burhop of Lodi and Jean (Rev. Karl) Pishaw of Forest Grove, Oregon; ten grandchildren, Heather (Aaron) Herum, Dacia Riggs, Darrin Riggs, Travis (Nikki) Buckley, Renee Buckley, Shannon (Andy) Bruskiewicz, Kelli Burhop, Kari (James) Haas, Abigail Pishaw and Rebekah Pishaw; nine great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Mildred) Buckley; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Reuben) Clark and a best friend, Tom Mahoney. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lela Mae Smith; brother, Raymond; granddaughter, Rachel and great grandson, Trevor.

Funeral Services will be held at DEKORRA LUTHERAN CHURCH, N3099 Smith Road, Poynette, at 11:00 AM, on Friday, April 18, 2014 with Pastor Ryan Rouse presiding. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be held at DEKORRA LUTHERAN CHURCH, N3099 Smith Road, Poynette, on Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 3:30 PM until 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.

    A peaceful demonstration in Baltimore on Saturday came to an end when police in riot gear tried to hold a line, and a few protesters vandalized police cars, threw objects at officers, cursed at them and scuffled with them.

    The WISC-TV studio parking lot was busy with hundreds of viewers bringing their sensitive documents to be destroyed as part of Shredfest with the Better Business Bureau Saturday morning.

    A combined 1,295 cars dropped off bags of papers at WISC-TV on Raymond Road and SVA Certified Public Accountants firm on John Q. Hammons Drive.

    News 3 and Better Business Bureau team members unloaded bags of documents from viewers' cars and Pellitteri Waste Systems' Data Destruction team put the papers into the shredding trucks.
