Walter E. Meyer

MADISON-Walter E. Meyer, age 91, of Madison, entered into eternal life on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare.

He was born on July 22, 1922, to Herbert and Elizabeth (Fell) Meyer in Madison. Walter graduated from East High School in 1940. He married Noreen (Smith) Meyer on Aug. 14, 1943, while on leave from the U.S. Air Force. They recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Walter was one of three sons, who served in the European Theater during World War II. He was an athlete who enjoyed sports, including bowling, and especially baseball. Being an all-star catcher with the Madison Industrial League and Gardner Bakery, championship team. In 1942, he played on the Home Talent championship team which later, practically every player served their country in WWII. Walter worked for 40 years at the Madison Kipp Corp., and over 19 years at the Dane Country Coliseum. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Madison.

Walter is survived by his wife, Noreen; daughter, Judy (Robert) Moe of Stoughton; son, Michael Meyer of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Todd Moe of Cottage Grove, Traci Moe-Harried (Jerry) Delafield, and Tyna Swatek of Stoughton; loving great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Rachel, and Troy Moe, Bradley and Emily Harried, Payton and Paige Swatek, and Katie and Eric Meyer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert, Arthur, and William Meyer; sister, Beatrice Hagen; and grandson-in-law, Dennis Swatek.

Funeral services will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Dr., Monona , at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, with Father John Silva presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.

The family would like to thank the many staff members at Agrace HospiceCare for the loving care they gave to Walter.

He was a humble, loving, and gentle man, and we will miss him every day.
